Ebooks – Tips for creating an ebook

by Angela on April 3, 2007

Writing and selling ebooks is the easiest (and most fun) way to become a top-earning Web writer.

An ebook can be any length; some are around 20 pages and some are over 100 pages. Ebooks are popular because the person buying the book can, usually, download it right after they buy it. There is no waiting for the book to be shipped. Even traditional book outlets, such as Amazon, now carry ebooks.

You can create an ebook around any topic. If you already have a website filled with content, think about what your target market would more information on. If you fill your ebook with quality information, people will be willing to pay for it. The average person does not have a lot of free time; in many cases they would rather pay to have all the information they are looking for in one place than search throughout the internet to locate bits and pieces of the information on various web pages.

Once you decide the topic of your ebook, you will need to plan your content. Breaking the work up into tiny bits will make the process easier. If you are planning to have a 50 page ebook, think of it as 50 articles. If you can write five articles a day, you can create your ebook in ten days. If you want to work at a slower pace, try writing two articles a day; you will still have created an ebook in less than a month.

You can write your ebook in any word processing software, but to make sure anyone who buys it will be able to read it, you will want to convert the file into a PDF before you publish it. Anyone who downloads a free copy of Adobe Reader will be able to read a PDF file. There are various places on the web that will allow you to convert your file into a PDF for free (try Google docs).

If you choose, you can sell your ebook through a retailer that specializes in digital products, such as Clickbank. You can set up an account for under $50. Clickbank has a virtual army of affiliates, and their affiliates can promote your book. You will need to determine how much commission you are willing to offer them. You can also set up your own affiliate program. This will give you a bit more control of your product, as you will know which affiliates are promoting the book and can contact them.
