Ebooks – an Easy Way to Structure and Write Your Ebook

by Angela on September 2, 2008

Ebooks equal cash, and writing an ebook is easier than you think, once you have the structure. Here’s an easy structure (a template) which you can use to write your next ebook.

Your aim in your writing must always be to help the reader. He’s bought your ebook because he wants help – ensure that you give him that help.

Here’s the outline of an easy structure you can use.

1. The problem, and why the reader wants to fix it.

Your readers buy your ebook because you’re offering solutions to a problem. For example, if your ebook is about getting a better job, in this opening section you talk about what getting a better job will mean to the reader.

This initial section inspires the reader to continue reading, and motivates him to take action.

1a. The benefits of fixing the problem – what will the reader’s life be like, once he’s read your ebook?

Include some real-life examples of people who’ve achieved the goal the reader wants to achieve – who’ve lost weight if you’re writing a diet ebook, or who’ve increased their incomes if you’re writing a “make money” ebook.

3. This is the body of the ebook. In these chapters, you develop a solution, or a series of solutions, to the reader’s problem.

In this section, your aim is to progress from the general, to the specific. For example, if you’re writing a “get a better job” ebook, you’ll start by discussing actions the reader should take, and then go on to describe those actions in detail.

4. But what if it doesn’t work? Or further reading, where to go for more information.

You’ve guided your reader, and provided the information he needs, but what if it doesn’t work for the reader? What if he’s followed your instructions, and still doesn’t have a great job? What if your diet doesn’t work for him?

This section can be brief – it may only be a few pages – but don’t omit it. Give him some information on what to do if he’s stuck – where he can go for further information, or what he can do to get unstuck.

5. Tools for the reader.

You’ll often want to provide tools for the reader, so this is the section where you include the tools – a couple of sample resumes for the reader who wants a better job, or a weekly eating plan for the reader who needs to diet.

So there you have an easy structure for your next ebook. The value of the structure is that it helps you to think about your ebook, and write it in sections. This cuts down on procrastination. It also means that you know at a glance where you need more information, and will need to do more research.
